
Christopher Rylander received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, all from The University of Texas at Austin. In 2014 he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin as an Associate Professor. Dr. Rylander’s technical areas of expertise include manufacturing and design, biomechanical engineering, and thermal/fluid systems. He is the Principal Investigator of the Medical Device Laboratory, with research focused on solving healthcare related problems using mechanical engineering design and manufacturing techniques. Since beginning his academic career at Virginia Tech in 2007, Dr. Rylander has been awarded numerous grants from sponsors including the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation with total funding over $13 million. He has published 44 peer reviewed scholarly articles in high-ranking journals such as Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, PLoS One, and Cancer Research. Dr. Rylander has nine issued patents. He has graduated eight Ph.D. students and 10 M.S. students, and is currently advising four Ph.D. students. He previously served as an Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Medical Devices.
