BU Questrom Essay Wins Inaugural 2026 HMPI Contest

The paper entitled “AI as Administrative Infrastructure: Reducing Waste and Enabling Value-Based Care,” has won first place in the inaugural Will Mitchell Student Essay Contest. Authored by Bryn Rediger, the essay will be submitted for publication in the June issue of BAHM’s journal, Health Management, Policy and Innovation (HMPI); Bryn, who holds a Health Sector MBA and MPH from Boston University, will also receive a $1,000 prize.

Bryn’s was one of several submissions from BAHM-member schools focused on ways AI can be used to improve health system operations and patient care. The anonymized essays were scored on criteria including strategic relevance, intellectual originality, practical application, writing quality, and interdisciplinary integration and / or global perspective. All contest participants have been encouraged to update their essays with the judges’ comments and submit them for consideration for publication in HMPI.

Thank you to BAHM-member faculty Patrick Aguilar, WashU Olin Business School, Chris Johnson, Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business, and Howie Forman, Yale School of Management, for serving as the contest judges. And thank you to Forest Kim at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business, and Bruce Barnes and the Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health & Business Administration, for conceiving of and providing the framework for the essay contest.
